Designer Women’s Jacket
One of a Kind – Art to Wear

Our elephant embroidered jacket is dedicated to African Elephants. The elephant appliques on the back of this Earth Bitch jacket are a reminder of the strong family bonds and love that elephants share and the juxtaposition of the lack of humanity that has seriously affected their existence on Earth.  Elephant eyes embroidered on the sleeve of this designer women’s jacket look into the souls of humanity.

Made of: 55% hemp 45% cotton shell. 100% organic cotton hood hand dyed in house. Lined in vintage floral light weight twill. Made in Vermont.

The applique elephants are made of fabric remnants and done in trapunto, meaning they are stuffed. Their eyes are beaded and their tails are braided embroidery floss. This hand embroidered jacket has beautifully shaded Acacia trees done in bullion knots with crochet branches and tree trunks.

Earth Bitch is a supporter of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an orphan elephant rescue and wildlife rehabilitation program in Kenya.

When I began working on the embroidered elephant appliques I wanted to raise awareness of declining elephant populations. My research led me to discover that human populations are encroaching further and further into wildlands and shrinking habitat for wild elephant populations. This creates a situation for farming conflicts and people kill wild elephants in retaliation for destroying their crops. The illegal Ivory trade is still decimating endangered elephants. The suffering elephants experience breaks my heart. I can viscerally imagine the fear and trauma elephants are experiencing at the hands of humans. Through the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust you can adopt an elephant. In addition to raising orphaned elephants they also have a veterinary team and anti-poaching team.   To read more about other wildlife inspirations visit the Earth Bitch journal.
